The Main Street Bath office is hopping this week as preparations for Bath Heritage Days kick into high gear. We are still accepting parade entries through this week. Just in time for summer, the Main Street Bath Design Committee had new murals installed along the Rt. 1 exit ramp under the viaduct this week. The four panels use the nautical alphabet to spell out a welcome to the City of Ships, B-A-T-H. Many thanks to the students of the Bath Middle School 6th grade gifted and talented program for painting the murals, the Regional Vocational School carpentry class students for the installation, and the Bath Rotary Club for funding the project. Thanks for partnering with us!

Wine Tasting at Now You’re Cooking, 49 Front Street

Fields for our Future Fundraiser at Solo Bistro, 128 Front Street
On Thursday June 14, Solo Bistro will be hosting a fundraiser for the Fields for Our Future group, which is raising funds to convert McMann Field to artificial turf so that Bath can once again host championships (and hopefully produce additional champions of its own!). As a matter of civic spirit and sound economic development, we are proud to participate in this effort, and we hope many folks will come out to offer their support. Like the Freight Shed Alliance, this is a real grass roots undertaking that knits together many sectors of our diverse community.

Kennebec Art Club’s Art in the Park is an annual feature of Heritage Days in Bath. Artists from Maine and beyond display their art work in twelve foot by twelve foot spaces in “Library Park” on Washington Street (between Summer and Linden Streets) at the Patten Free Library.
The net proceeds of The Kennebec Art Club’s Art in the Park are used for Scholarships distributed to art students in local high schools who are going to college.
Art in the Park is held from 10 am to 5 pm, Saturday and Sunday, July 7 & 8, 2012, rain or shine. One award of $150 for Best in Show, and up to four $75 Honorable Mention prizes will be given. The juror for 2012 will be announced later. Eligible media include Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Drawing, Print Making and Mixed Media

Back to the Garden Show at Markings Gallery, 50 Front Street
Our “Back To The Garden” show continues through the end of June featuring metal and stone garden sculpture , botanical tiles, raku vegetables, and vibrant glass and iron garden panels. 3rd Friday Artwalk & Drive Showcases More than 30 Artists, Downtown and around town
Maine’s Cool Little City, invites you to the 3rd Friday Artwalk and Drive. The first ArtWalk is June 15th from 5pm – 8pm. This year the National Trust for Historic Preservation presented Bath with the “Great American Main Street Award”. We are the first in Maine and only the fifth in New England to receive this award. If Bath defines hyperbole, this year’s line up of more than 30 artists will fit right in, with several emerging artists and many familiar faces.
An easy place to start the ArtWalk is at the Roy Farmer Associates/Carleton Group offices at 99 Commercial Street on the waterfront. Every month they exhibit an extensive collection of local work. They will also have the latest information on what to see and do for those new to our ArtWalk.
Many artists have their studios and exhibits in the downtown area of Front and Centre Streets. Blue and white balloons will identify locations and the ArtWalk brochure is available at all artist locations and at many businesses in Greater Bath. You’ll find ceramics, glass, paintings, jewelry, murals, wood and other materials used for artistic expression. Also take time to enjoy the musicians at the Clock on Front and Centre.
Half a dozen artists have their studios just outside the downtown…the Drive part of our ArtWalk. Take the loop down Washington, cross to High; work your way up, back over and down Washington. End up back downtown.
As you finish the evening; stop by one of Bath’s fine restaurants for some dinner and refreshments.
ArtWalks take place on the third Friday of each month from 5pm until 8pm June through September.

Adopt-A-Book at Patten Free Library, 33 Summer Street
The Patten Free Library announces the return of its Adopt-a-Book program and invites patrons and community members to participate. This program will run from June 5-July 31, 2012.
To take part, simply visit the Library in Bath and browse the display of books available for adoption. Select a title, fill out the brief form, and present these items at the desk with $20 cash or check. Once a book has been adopted it then may be borrowed for the first time. A bookplate with your inscription will be created for future readers of the book to see.
Funds raised through the program are counted as contributions toward the annual fund; this year’s goal is $70,000. Providing financial support to the library is the reason for the program, but the personal reasons to Adopt-a-Book are many and varied. The library asks you to share your reason by adopting a book. Each custom bookplate is an opportunity to honor someone special, mark an occasion, or celebrate a milestone.
The Patten Free Library, located at 33 Summer Street in Bath, is open from 10 am to 8 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 10 am to 5 pm on Thursdays and Fridays, and 10 am to 1 pm Saturdays.
