Here in Maine my charters focus on fishing for shallow water striped bass, casting flies and artifical lures to fish that we can see, in and around the Kennebec River. This can be an incredibly rewarding way to pursue stripers and is a new experience even for many veteran saltwater anglers. The Lower Kennebec watershed is dropdead gorgeous, highly productive, and uncrowded. Our season starts in May and runs into early October, but come Labor Day, I move my base of operations to Falmouth, Massachusetts on the south shore of Cape Cod, to chase false albacore from Monomy to Cuttyhunk. These heart-stopping speedsters offer a very visual hunting experience. They can eat flies and lures well…and then become highly selective. Searching for the fish, figuring out what they want, and then making the cast under pressure is addictive.
I truly enjoy sharing knowledge I’ve gained over thirty years of running charterboats. As a former outdoor educator and science teacher, part of my passion includes helping you learn more about these fish, how to become a better angler, and the environment where we play. All of the gear I use is top notch and truly light-tackle. In Maine I fish out of an 18.5 Maverick Master Angler flats boat equipped with the latest electronics. This boat is perfectly suited for fishing the shallow flats of the Kennebec River and ideally set up for 2 anglers plus guide. I believe in Catch-Photo-Release, as these striped bass are my business partners.
If you’re visiting Bath, Popham Beach, Boothbay Harbor, or anywhere else between Portland and Camden, I hope you’ll join me for some time on the water.
