The folk music duo, Castlebay, well known for their interpretations of traditional ballads from the Celtic lands, will present a special concert of songs from the time of Maine’s First Ship, Virginia. The seamen who came here and built the ship on the banks of the Kennebec in 1607 would have been familiar with a variety of folk songs and ballads which appear in collections from the time. Fred Gosbee, who has been helping to build Virginia’s replica, will present these songs with his partner, Julia Lane, accompanied with period instruments and historic explanation.
