Kennebec Early Music Festival Toute de Suite: Bach and the French
Tuesday August 14 @ 7:00 pm$10 – $25
NOTE – This concert is also being performed on Wednesday, August 15th, in the intimate Linden Tree Meeting House in Phippsburg, ME
The Kennebec Early Music Festival is bringing together musicians of national and international renown from San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, and Bath to perform the music of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and other classical masters on historic instruments. Baroque and Classical clarinets, Baroque violin and violoncello, Flemish harpsichord, and Viennese fortepiano.
Among J. S. Bach’s most beloved masterpieces are his sets of Suites and Partitas for solo violin and solo violoncello, a sampling of which will animate this concert. To explore Bach’s roots we’ll travel to France with a harpsichord suite by the Francophile Froberger and a Suite for Chalumeau by Boismortier. Displaying their virtuosity will be Thomas Carroll, Chalumeau, Susanna Ogata, 1772 Klotz violin, Sarah Freiberg, 1784 Merlin violoncello, and Linda Skernick, Franco-Flemish harpsichord. Preceding the concert at 6:15 pm will be an “about the instruments talk”.
KEMF 2018 is supported by grants from the Edgard and Geraldine Feder Foundation and the Davenport Family Trust, with major sponsorships from Bath Savings Trust Company, William Raveis/Carleton Real Estate, and Androscoggin Bank.
