Country Farm Furniture, 148 Front Street, Website (Daniel Coulombe, co-owner)
When did you begin the enterprise? (and where if not Bath) Catherine and I have been in the furniture industry for about 35+ years.
We took over the Country Farm Furniture Store on May 1, 2014. We had worked to start a store together in the mid-coast area for 10+ years before we had got the offer to help the past owners retire in 2014 and several business plans and bank rejections later here we are, thanks to Elliott Berry of the Portland, Maine Camden National Bank.
Why? Catherine’s family owned a shirt factory in Bridgeport Connecticut, her early interest in fabric’s and color is in her fourth generation blood, her knowledge and love for the furniture industry is truly a strong reason why she is here today. Dan’s was interested in space planning and studied color at MECA Maine College of Art, working together in this kind of collaborative relationship is a dream come true, and being able to help others in their homes create spaces that work for them brings great satisfaction, along with helping our staff grow to their full potential, we love or work.
What do you offer? We sell comfort. We have a selection of furniture that is wide and moving by “moving” we find ourselves in a furniture Renascence, updating your living space has become more then stuff, a sense of being comfortable both physically and mentally, your creating a haven, a space to be yourself. We do this by offering guidance, direction, and the ability to get a huge section of furniture.
We are committed to offering US and New England made furniture whenever we can find it locally sourced hardwoods and sustainable company practices are more important to us than ever.
Why do you love Bath? Bath is so much more than a small town, it’s charm is in it’s ability to feel small but deliver great food, art, music. The residents have “local Flavor” that is like no other town, and our riverfront is a cool treat on a hot day. Everything is downtown, and available locally. We love the architecture and enjoy meeting the out-of-state travelers.
What might surprise someone about you or your business? The vast amount of US made furniture we have available now, the fact that you can custom order a sofa, chair, sectional, choose the size- arm style- pillow back style- seat softness- leg style- in 700 fabrics- finish- trim. Delivered in 30 days!! This location has been a furniture store since the late 1800s. We love to support the Good Shepherd Food Bank as a continuing donor. We still employ Vicki Arsenault a former owner, her knowledge of the industry and a area is of great importance to our team.
What are you excited about in the coming year? We are introducing an exclusive new collection of living room furniture called the Hamilton Collection made for us by CR Laine a leader in quality built upholstered furniture. We will be starting the process to update and improve the front of the building!
We are eager to introduce our son Evan Coulombe to the retail side of the operation, he’s been involved in the industry for 7 years and is moving forward to understand all aspects of service and delivery, and ready to explore the design service, sales and retail space planning.
