What is Friends of Seguin Island Light Station?
FOSILS mission is to “distinguish Seguin Island as part of Maine’s heritage, fostering connections with our history for generations to come”.
What is the history of the group?
The organization was originated in Georgetown in 1985 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to save the first order Fresnel light when the Coast Guard was decommissioning the station. Since the summer of 1986, The Friends of Seguin Island Light Station have had volunteer keepers on the 64 acre Island to welcome guests, maintain and improve buildings and trails as well as keep the Coast Guard posted on any problems with light equipment.
